Choosing the Right Bowling Ball

Choosing a bowling ball depnds on whether you are a casual, once in a while bowler or bowl regularly in a league or tournaments.

The surface material of the ball is probably the most critical aspect to consider in purchasing a bowling ball.  This determines the friction on the lane as  the ball travels down the lane.  More friction gives more hook.

Summer League Bowling

Summertime is great for trying out league bowling.

The leagues are only about 10 weeks long and it is a good opportunity to test out a new sport.

The atmosphere is more relaxed during the summer and you can check the alley and lanes out before fall league starts.  It's also a good time to practice for the upcoming leagues.

100 Year Old Bowls in Tournament

100 year old Emma from New Jersey is the oldest person to compete in the women's championships being held in Reno, Nevada.

She bowls twice a week at home and average 120.

She is impressive by anyone's standards.

What is Handicap?

In league play, a handicap is figured for each bowler based on the difference between their average score and a standard score set by the league.  Three games are usually bowled in league play and the handicap amount is added onto the score for each game bowled.  The average is calculated by adding the three game scores together and dividing by the number of games bowled.
